REgardless, he should foot the bill for repairing your chassis....or does that come under the catch-all waiver that ANY damage is not the responsibility of the site owners/employees?

I'm not really bothered about the repair because as said I should have checked and realised that he put it on the TIE DOWN < (see what i did! Nearly learnt the name of every single thing before driving it this morning ) myself at the time. Just annoyed that he attempted it because he did not know what he was doing and didn't run it past me 1st. He should have stuck to the plan! The doughnut! But hey ho you live and learn I suppose! I'll just dig it out myself next time lol

can you imagine if it was a freelander? It would have no doors!
As for the ripped out but, that will be easy to weld up.

Your right that is bloody stuck! I need a winch before I plan on getting stuck like that! I need to make my driveway better before I get a winch and fix the landys transmission before the drive !
Yeah well its only a 12mm bolt that's ripped through so not to bad. More worried whether its my diff, half shaft or transfer box! It gave a big clonk then lost all front wheel drive! Also wobbled like buggery about 30mph!

make sure its fitted correct, I,ve seen these distort and rip the rear cross member before..it happens

Also I dont see an issue of fitting a ring back to were I plate it. Someone suggested it before as a bad idea but like most things I disagree with him again.
Me and a close friend have been making banger gear, stock car bumpers, roll cages, huge a frames for lifting transits in yards, recovery trucks and transits and horse carts etc for years and have a good understanding of metals and welding and as long as you use good steel, rap it properly or use a good size plate and you know how to weld it can be incredibly strong! Never have we had a weld or steel snap or tear even when we put a forklift on a back of a transit! (Just to move round a yard)

Shop around, I got a hitch with all pins etc, plates and bolts off eBay cheap
Nice job. Would it work as good to one side as I need my tow bar and don't want to put it over the top? Maybe at the end of a chassis leg?

I've seen the cross member crush/rip even with these fitted, if large stresses are applied the weakest point will allway's give....and if your using kinetic snatch ropes even more so

Looks good but my tow bars a lot higher than yours. I'll have to do some tweaking when I get a chance. But I just been informed I gotta put to classic cars in my garage for a while so that's all out the question for a while. I'll get me chassis and ring put back on, then its time to have a think about a NATO jobby

Im gunna always remember me spade to dig stuff out a bit. Could relieve a lot of stress on the chassis or crossmember. After all its old steel and wasn't designed for huge tugging. Although with them plate you would do well to rip that out. It cover a fairly big area. Bet its sh!t scary when that comes off!

if the rear towing eye don't give the rear radius arms/trailing arms will bend. Was looking for a photo of a snatch wea the axle hanging off. Your right allways do some digging work to remove some of the stress. The plate works but if your cross member has rot it will give eventually,
