What we need to remember here is that the OP wanted tyres for his (wife's) Freelander who doesn't go off-road. Also he / she has 18" wheels so presumably a Sport model.
All of the big-name brands - Michelin, Goodyear, Pirelli, Continental, Dunlop, etc. have a decent road-biased tyre available.
For a general-purpose, all-season road tyre they will be fine.
If you want a tyre to last a good while, do the occasional green lane, and keep you moving in the winter snows, then most will do the job well.
Lots of us on here have extra requirements - off-road, towing on grassy fields, high-speed road use, etc.
In an ideal world, cost no object we would all have at least 2 or 3 sets of wheels and swap them around as required.
All tyres are a compromise and none will be ideal under all conditions. This is from a guy who once took his wife and family for a holiday in the South of France on a set of rally 'knobblies' which were too loud even for the radio at max.
You just have do choose what will be best for you and what you do with your Freelander most of the time.
I have 8 wheels and swap sets over when the clocks change, but fully recognize that most folks can't / don't want to do that.
Horses for courses.
