I have a P38 and am looking at getting a trailer, I like the build quality and ruggedness of a Sankey, My question Is, whether a P38 and a Sankey are compatable?....... A read on here about a guy having trouble with the ride height. I know I'd need a Nato hitch and about the electrics being different, but was wondering If there were other incompatabilities, I would be very interested and grateful for all your helpful comments.

You can tailOr the ride height using testbook or similar as long as its within the range on standard or lower height. Just remember to lock or inhibit to that height when towing!

I tow a speedboat on (what I'm pretty sure is) a sankey trailer - it copes absolutely fine. I particularly like being able to lower the suspension to pop it on; in the olden days with my raised Disco it was a put-back-out lifting job

do you have a nato hitch ? if not then you don't tow a sankey

Why do you need a NATO hitch for it to be a Sankey? I've seen plenty converted to use the standard tow balls and they're still Sankey trailers. Aren't they?

Not sure how you'd get a boat on one though.

You highly doubt what? That some have had a hitch change? Why would you doubt something like that? It's not exactly rocket science.

There was a company advertising them in LRO for a start with ball hitches.

well the hitch is designed to work with the towing eye so I don't see the point in ruining the design, the trailer will also be far too high anyway without messing with new wheels on the trailer and changing the ride height on the car. It just seems like a pointless endeavour and on top of that I'd much rather trust the original set up than changing it to a ball and lock thing on a trailer that heavy

I'm not disagreeing with you but you defintely can buy them with ball hitches.

Sankey has a swiveling hitch? so no use with a std ball hitch. Dunno what you'd have to do to mod em But am sure it's possible..

I had a Sankey which had been modified to run a standard ball hitch before I got it, and I ran it with an LSE and a 109, each with an adjustable tow hitch drop plate. It worked fine.
However - Sankey`s weigh a lot and can be tricky to move by hand if you need to, unless you need something that robust then you would have to question whether it is worth it AND they can rust like nobody`s business if not cared for. I think on reflection I`d have been better with a second hand Ifor or similar for the LSE.
Plus my Sankey didn`t have an opening tailgate, which was a pain in the a---e for lifting heavy stuff in and out

Thanks for the replies, I wouldn't want to mess with the Sankey Ring, I have seen these trailers converted to use a ball tow hook, but honestly it just doesn't look right, I would probably go with the Nato hitch or a Dixon Bate ball and pin set up.
I recently fitted a tow bar and a 2" hitch receiver, so I am looking at getting a Terra Firma 2" hitch drop plate, so this would increase the height difference.
I think these are rated to 5 tons so should be able to handle a loaded Sankey.
As far as the electrics go I think I'd just put a Plug on the trailer to fit the oem socket.
I'll start looking for the Sankey soon, I think the later ones have a tailgate that drops down to help loading and off loading, Not in a rush though.
I just wish there was a Sankey type trailer that you could load a motorbike or two on, Use it to take rubbish down the tip, carry tools or tow a car like a dolly trailer. not all at the same time though.
No need for a towing a boat for me yet!! But who knows what the future holds!!

Probably of no interest! But I've fitted a NATO hitch to my disco 2 at the correct height using a drop plate to raise it past the bumper. Just need to find a trailer now
