I know naff all about series land rovers, but always fancied having a go at a rebuild.

Been looking at one locally which has been standing for years (outside).
Finally knocked but no reply so left a note.

Chuffed when he phoned back and confirmed he was interested in selling it, couldn't remember the year but has the log book somewhere.
Asked about the £££ thinking, hoping and needing it to only be scrap money (this would be a long term project) and he wants to get near to £700 (thats what he paid 7 years ago).

Asked why so much and he's been told the number plate is worth £2K but not able to sell as the Landy needs to be MOT'd?
I can't afford £700 so unless he has a change of heart thats killed that idea (still at least the missis won't be getting upset! I hadn't mentioned it  )

Out of interest anyone able to tell from this photo (street view) what series it is.
If not I'll take a look at the w/end and also note down the reg.

Really really bad photo, but, i think Series 3. It's not a 1 and i don't think the hinges look right, but, as i say very hard to tell from that photo.
Looks like a short wheel base too.

£700 is too much, even if the number plate is good, it's useless without an MOT. For that price you'd expect a Series to have an MOT or at least be running and not a million miles off an MOT.

If it's pre-1973 it's worth a tiny bit more as it will be tax exempt.

Looks like a Series 2a as the window hinges on the front bulkhead are on the outside but could be wrong due to poor quality photo. Max I would offer is £500 only if chassis is very good. If it needs lots of work then £250.

Tell him you'll give him £50 more than scrap value for it

Point out all the rust, all the damage everything

cheers guys, you have confirmed that my thoughts of £200 would be about right.

I've left my number with him and asked he calls me back if he has a change of heart.

I'll take a picture at the weekend (only time i'll be home in daylight hours) rather than reply on the screen pic from street view.
The wheels are painted white steels?

700 is way too much going by the dodgy photo, get yourself on ebay and get youself in about a few to find the common faults, theres tonnes of info about them going about,
but the main points to look for is chassis rot and knackered bodys mostly the bulkhead tbh, but the beuty of them is the parts are rediculously cheap and usually abundent so as long as you are not aiming for concourse spec you can usually get something within any reasonable budget

Hows Yow?:)

It looks to be a 2a to me,well at least the n/s wing is,there's no hole for the heater fan.....

You could say you will give him scrap value and once it is mot'd give him the reg back and get a new one assigned to the vehicle
