hi all just changed oil and filter on my td4 it says to tighten nut up to 25nm but my torque wrench does not start at that lower torque it starts at 40ft lb so not sure how tight to tighten it anyone know please many thanks dawn

its not imperative just tight enough it doesnt undo and not too tight you bust it, you must remember how to tighten nut when no torque given

so anybody that cant feel how tight to do it up can,its not like a head gasket where even pressure needs applying

just been and borrowed a smaller torque wrench so all sorted now but thanks for help and yes the housing nut needs to be 25nm as stated on the housing nut just spoke to a guy who works at bmw

why,you dont know and neither does he ,how do you manage with stuff with no setting given ,i cant believe people cant tighten something up

Never torques one up ever :)

Plastic housing, when the top stops spinning, its tight. 25nm is just nipped up. Tight enough not to come undone :)

if somethink as a torque setting its there for a reason and should be done up to that torque where its the filter housing or stretch bolts after replacing the head on a car.he is doing this type of filter day in day out thats how he knows

nearlly all bolts are given settings, head bolts are one thing as clamping force has to be even ,practice bolt tightening

I'm not sure how your comparing stretch bolts , which have a numerical and rotational torque to a plastic cap though :)
