If you use your hand to try to stop a fan at running temperature then i'd suggest its your brain thats ****ed.

i can run my hand on the flat surface on top of fan and stop it with not much force i dont stick my hand in the fan:eek:

is a viscous fan fooked if you can stop it with your hand when at running tempreture:doh::doh::doh:

If you can stop it easily it is. It should never be impossible to stop but more difficult when hot than when cold.

thanks for the sensible answer, all i was trying to find out was if the viscous was not working properly could it cause a fault in the system and blow some coolant out without overheating???

The fan makes more noise when cold as the clutch system is working, after a few mins it will make far less noise this is when you could stop the fan but do use something like a welding glove or your hand may need stiching back on :D

****ing thing is frying my head if i drive it 4-5 miles it will blow coolant out and then it drives on as normal i know when it does it because the coolant blows onto the eas wires under header tank and causes a fault on eas but temp gauge does not seem to move once it blows out then it will drive as normal i have already done head gaskets but there is still a problem:eek::eek::eek:

Sounds like you've got a blockage somewhere that gets released under pressure when it gets up to temperature. Have you flushed the rad and system thoroughly?

Your not overfilling it by any chance are you. It must be filled to level when engine is cold. Never overfill it will just blow out any excess.

first Q - how warm does your heater get?

coz if it dont get het, i reckon its an air lock - turn yo heater to as hot as you can.

my heating system is a ****ing mess i have to fix it all, fans no longer work i probably have a flap blend motor jammed, it is not an overfill of coolant either. but i do have a strange flow of coolant from the throttle housing back to the header tank,is it possible that this mess can **** the whole system up and cause all systems to fail:eek::eek::eek:

just for the record it has a new radiator, new stat, new header tank, newpressure cap.and when i had it apart there were no signs of any block problems.

Have you actually tested the stat in a pan of hot water? Sticking new stats have been reported recently. Put it in a pan of cold water and put it on the stove to heat up and watch to see if it opens smoothly, better still if you have a thermometer so you can check the temperature that it opens at:D

when car is at running temp all pipes are warm radiator flow is good and can get flow from bleeder pipe from top of rad back to header tank,
