Finally after more than a year, repaired the plastic tabs on my lower tailgate trim last night. 2mm aluminium strips glued with Sticks Like SH*T. All nicely bonded, and re-installed just now. The cover has been flapping for ages.
I’m no great expert on brakes (can you tell?)
But - I can see the potential benefit of holes in the discs aiding cooling. Beyond that, and unless you’re into super-speeds and heavy, prolonged braking, I don’t see the benefit from grooved discs???
Not sure if this will be deleted :D
Looking for alternatives to Disco 2, from other brands.
So far X5 and ML come up but are hardly as capable at towing and off road. But since I almost never go off road other than to tow a trailer across a...
Thanks for the great advice !! It is possible that I heated the new discs and they have gone too shiny ?!?!
Which leads to a discussion with @kernowsvenski last weekend.
Grooves and holes in the discs, good, bad or waste of time ??
I can see...

"the D2 dash(speedometer, tachometer, warnings) will not work for the 300tdi engine cos it works with PWM signals from the Td5 ECM, you'll have to transplant the instrument pack and wire it to the engine and fusebox but let the rest of the...
Honestly I’d be curious how the heck your going to get a body with all interior still there for not stupidly expensive money considering breakers can strip almost everything out to sell it…? I’d start with actually sourcing that, no point on the...
Put a bit of grease on the discs, that’ll stop it…
NO DON’T !!!
I’m with your ‘glazed disc’ explanation.
Don’t you have a couple of spares in your stash that you switch briefly, to rule in/out?
Had this issue too, you’ll just have to pattern it the best you can and make a repair panel/patch to weld in. I’d get used to this cause if there ain’t an easy panel for it then it’s a diy job.
Road test 4x2 today, everything is fine.
Regarding the IRD :
The oil itself is brown color, clean, not black, but with a tiny bit of metal "flakes" at the surface. Really not a lot, but noticeable under the sun. When I plunge a big magnet in, i...
@RRMaximus you have alot of perseverance.
You keep on bleating that you want to lower your RPM but if not fuel economy then why?
If its for engine longevity you do realise that a lower RPM but higher throttle request cause higher cylinder...
Timing belt...its a mileage or age thing.
10 years is a long time and I share this having learned the hard way when one broke after only 25k miles but was 4 years beyond its time/life.
Thanks, calipers are only a year old, but it is possible. Brakes run cool when driving with no brake application.
Thinking - I renewed the pads and discs first before realising the calipers were not returning properly, although not seized. Is it...
I think removal and cleaning of injectors would be a reasonable (and cost effective) stage one to try and address the problem, even if it requires buying a cheap sonic cleaner. If that didn’t work, I’d go to stage two and buy a known ‘good’...
You bothered because this is the right thing to do, share the information that you have with people that are looking for solutions.
I have found an SKF distributor near me and I will email them and see if they can help.
Thank you for your effort.
Pop into a shop, buy a bottle of cold water and pour it over the top of fuel injection pump. Over heat sensor just under cover and can stop it firing when too hot. water trick can cool it down enough to make it fire up
Jack it under the axle & put axle stands under. Then height sensors are easy even on the bumps.
As others said get some schrader valves as well. Then you can raise it up, while fixing the pump.
Let the motor get to temperature & see if the smoke goes.
It will be burning all the oils etc that has sat in the engine for a few years.
All should be good…(inspect cam belt for wear/deterioration)
Yes I am relatively new to working on cars ,so owning old landys is definitely going to teach me the hard way .
Trying to not just throw money at it until it works.
Update:
It seems like the ends of the clips that hold on to the harness have snapped off. (orange on my car, green on a picture I've found online)
Any ideas of how to fix this?
Spent all morning writing a "stinker" for the missus to send to the coroner's orifice.
Apparently she (coroner) is sufficiently interested to want the hospital to respond to our questions.
Nothing will change the result, but we want to know...
Decided to hoover out the cobwebs after 10 years and give it a go at starting the beast. Put a new battery in it and it started first time. Brilliant. However, a bit smokier than I was expecting. Would this just be 10 year old diesel or something...
Hi All,
Landy engine(2.4tdci Puma 160k) was making more noise than usual and on checking, front injector clamp was rattling. Bolt seems to have worked itself loose/stretched. Ordered some new ones(x2) and on fitting first one, it snapped half way...
