Hi few weeks ago my garage change partially (only 5.5 liter) oil in my zf6 gearbox , because of some harshness and juddering I am considering one more oil change using ravenol atf6 hp fluid which is verified by audi and BMW owners as a as good as Zf fluid ...and dedicated to Zf gearbox .

Should I consider buying new filter or using already mounted is possible(As I said its mounted new 2-3 weeks ago )?

If the original fluid had no debris in it, no need to change the filter again.

When doing a fluid change, you can only drain 5-6 litres from the sump which is about half the capacity....it is usually wise to change 5-6 litres, then run it for a couple of weeks then change it again, that way you are diluting the old fluid with new fluid.

As for the fluid itself, I would stick with the original specification oil.

First change had not exposed any remains in the oil so next change probably won't too ...

Unfortunately I have genuine land rover fluid in the gearbox ...so mixing with ravenol could cause some issues ...according to yours suggestion

I will try to buy some bottles of lr fluid and change it one more time without filter change

Thx

If the filter did its job you will see nothing in the drained fluid. What is the cost for a new filter compared to a new transmission, really a simple choice:rolleyes:

Why would my suggestion of using genuine original spec oil cause an issue if it already has LR pil in it??

Who said anything about Ravenol???

The filter prevents crap in the sump from getting to the box, so it is entirely possible that when draining oil in the sump you will get debris in the oil!

Think you missread his last post Ant, as I read it he's going to try for genuine LR auto fluid instead of Ravenol:)

Ravenol is 10000 % compilant with lr and shell 13xx oil and is recommended by mb and BMW , they lately introduced oils for Zf 8 and 9 gearbox and its fully German product

Stick with the Shell 13754 and nothing else....Range Rovers have enough problems with gearboxes, so don't stray off the path!

EDIT: Looking at the Ravenol website....they do the 6HP oil for the ZF6, so I hope they have used that...!!

But has Land Rover approved it? BMW use the same gearbox but don't utilise it the same way, so I would think about it before I would put a cheap oil in my gearbox.

Ravenol cost 10 pounds per liter ,and its meets both shel 13xx as well as LR xxx spec,

LR costs 25-30 pounds per liter so difference is huge.I am not able to compare that oils due to no scientific research available at that topic however (and its standard for any "gears" related parts) it's better to change 3 x then 1 x for the same price paid. The reason why LR and Audi and BMW forced shell to sell 13xx oil only under official car brand and official sell chain is obvious (250% margin????)

I made huge google survey and found since yesterday only positive opinions regarding Ravenol , previously I used that oil in my Mercedes Viano 3.0 Cdi and gearbox works great till the day I sell it.

Just to clarify ...
I am not a seller just to read some spec...

The same i have checked the torque converter price LR service claim for new one circa 1000 pounds when ZF and Sachs who manufacture it price it for 350-400 pounds ...the same part but without stupid LR stamp on it :)

Mate I have just mentioned it as cheap for you to make sure, if you are confident and as you say LR has approved the oil then I am happy with you, if you can save the extra and being safe then you are going the right way.
