While it has always been an offence to sod around in any way with number plates (spacing, punctuation, stickers, etc, etc) it is a recent change that means that MOT centres are looking for this too.
On a number plate, you are only allowed to display:
- Blue rectangle with Euro symbol with GB letters
- Blue rectangle with Cross of St George flag with GB letters
- Blue rectangle with Union Flag with GB letters
- Blue rectangle with Scottish Saltaire flag with GB letters
- Blue rectangle with Red Dragon flag with GB letters
- The name and postcode of the number plate supplier/manufacturer
Anything else is not allowed.
And you are not allowed:
- To use any fonts other than the two standard approved fonts
- Stylised letters and/or figures such as italics
- Number plate fixing bolts that alter the appearance of the letters and/or numbers
- To play about with the spacing
The penalties:
- A fine of up to £1,000
- The registration mark may be WITHDRAWN
- The vehicle may FAIL the MOT test
Cheers
