Hello all! 2 things I wanna know about tyres I hope someone can help me out here!

Basically ive got a puncture on my disco 1 MT its leaking quite badky from where the tyre meets the rim on the outer side, dont know how ive done it! Have I messed up the wheel? Tyre or both? Its as if the tyre and rim isn't mating so its leaking? Its a 235 70 16 insta turbo about a year old on a srandard disco 1 alloy.

Secondly as a spare ive put a road tyre on so ive got 3 muds and 1 road (front passnger) will this cause any problems? Until I get the mt sorted?

I know were all wheely tyred of going round and round in circles on tyre questions but I cant find any answers! Ive never had a puncture if it is that! Like this before

Thanks all for your great help have a nice day :)

warped/bent alloy. or knackered tyre wall. needs to go to tyre place & have it removed checked and reseated. Road tyre will be fine if same size as Muds, f

Thanks pikey yeah ill take it in to tyre garage with my spare wheel! Road tyre is different size would the diff sort that out though?

erm it int a good idea as it's illegal to have different sized tyres on the same axle  But if you wanted to take the risk whilst heading to & from tyre place they won't hurt the landy, Just keep the speed down.

So how do they get away with supplying cars with 'spacesaver' spares?

Would only risk it in an emergency- you are going to notice the difference when someone pulls out in front of you on a wet road and you stamp on that middle pedal  :crazy_driver::rolly::angel:

Get down to the local tyre shop (carefully) and it sorted. S/H rims are cheap enough even if it means a new tyre

Space-saver tyres are same diameter just different width and limited speed. It's also just a get-you-home item and not for general use ;)

Sometimes the bead sealant just gives up, even if the tyre's OK and the rim's not distorted. I've had this once or twice over the years. An (honest) tyre garage should be able to check it and sort it out if need be.

Not all spacesavers are the same size. My ex Yeti had a completely different size (diameter and width) and the speed was restricted to 50mph for 30 miles.

I would have thought a different size wheel would wind up the diff on a 4x4. It does on the Freelander.

Gaylander has VCU & IRD Not a proper diff setup. on a fender wheels will spin at different speeds quite happily only becomes a prob if diff lock is engaged, and then only the centre diff.

Well. Almost.

The front wheels have a diff. The rear wheels have a diff.

We just have the IRD & VCU in between instead of a manual centre diff. Works really well in mud, snow and wet grass. :D

thanks all for the replies, just been checking the disco over before i go away and looks like the radiator is knackard so wont be driving it anywhere! (coolant level is very low in the tank, radiator is wet and looks terrible with hardly any fins left!)

so i wont need to drive the disco now until i get the radiator and tyre sorted i also need a new tyre on the car so will put the disco wheel/tyre in the back to get it sorted :)

the road wheel/spare is on there to keep it level whilst im away for a couple of weeks.

Oh go on. It won't take long to get a tyre and to swap the radiator, and then you can go away in it with the satisfaction that you've undertaken some lightning repairs to make it all happen. Much better.

New radiator sourced, tyre and wheel is washed and in the back of the car for when I get back in a few weeks.
Stupid landrover is great at breaking itself but refuses to fix it self!

Luckily going away in a friends discovery 3 for the 200mile drive

Can we have LZIR on standby please? :D
