Good afternoon all
I was just wondering if this might be a start of a prob with my XYZ switch?
When i have the gear stick in P all is ok BUT when i put her into R or N, There is nothing showing on the dash or the lights on the gear lever cover don't light up.........As for the gear changing all seems to be ok ie goes into reverse and into drive, But she does seem to be holding onto 2nd gear a bit long (I put it down to cold oil) What do we all think am I just looking for probs or ??????

I look forward to your repliys......I think lol

IMO as long as it runs OK and no warnings the problem is not the switch but some output from the BCU... you need a tester to check the switch inputs though see if the reverse lights are working on R or not cos that could show something

Thanks mate
I will have a look if things get bad........I know its best to sort now but all working ok at the min. I just had this little man in the back of my head going "XYZ"

I had this problem with no N light or display on the dash, but I was getting the M & S lights as well. I removed the switch and took it apart, cleaned all the connections, resealed and replaced it, then adjusted it with a helper moving the gear leaver through all the gears until all the lights showed, then tightened the bolts. Been a couple weeks now, and all lights and display are as they should be. Most importantly, no M&S lights any more.

you might not do any good by disturbing that switch as long as you didnt get M+S warnings... if you corroborate my first reply with Haystack's input you'll see what i mean, better check first if you have reverse light when you dont get the R on dash cos if you have the switch is ok, if you dont have reverse lights either then yes, the swicth is suspect

Ok mate
No i dont get the S M on and yes my lights work ok. So i will leave will alone.
Its just something thats there and not working thing lol
Thanks

the output fom the XYZ switch comes on the same wire for reverse lamps and the dash indication so if the lamps are working and the symbol doesnt it's like i said in the first post an interruption somewhere on the circuit where(or after) it splits... when you want to go for it report and i'll tell you where to check, you need multimeter and RAVE for connector views

It's definitely a fiddly job, and I wouldn't recommend removing it if that's not the issue. As I say, I had the occasional MS lights, so a bit different.
