Help !!!

Just doing complete oil change on me Defender and after doing axles and swivels I have moved onto the gearbox but ............

I have never done owt like this before and I find myself a bit stumped ?

So here's some pics to see if you lot can help.

Am I right in assuming that the plugs labelled in the 1st pic are as I have labelled them filler/drain ?

Should there be a plug where there aint one in the 2nd pic ?

And lastly why is there a fookin ice cream van driving around whilst I am lay on my drive freezing fooking cold underneath me landy ????

thats a wade plug most people remove them for everyday use but when wading they should be re-fitted or visa versa not 100% i no mines in my chub box :D

2nd pics the bellhousing and its a hole for the wading plug to go into.have you downloaded rave?It might/will help

And yess your right on the first picture - if you have a look at busters photo guides there is a guide to making a clever bottle to help with the filling process.

I presume that you are using ATF to fill the main box with, and EP 80/90 for the transfer boxes and diffs????

Aye, the first photie is correct... but there's another drain plug. Here they are...

The one in your photie is the one ah'm pointin' to wi' me index finger. The other one is for the extension case and has a filter in it;)

*Well it were the missing plug that had me the most confused but if it's a wader then all's good.

Now as for your photy buster mine seems to differ a bit unless my spacial awareness has gone adrift.

Here's a pic of the gearbox from kinda where the transfer box is :-

See I can't place mine to yours beyond the drain plug going along to the transfer box, dunno if this makes any difference but I also have a PTO fitted.

As for the other responses ta, I have the Rave CD Iso permanently mounted with Daemon Tools and have a look at different sections every night to get an idea of future repairs. The oils I have so far drained and replaced are the Swivel Hubs, Transfer Box, Both Axles all with EP90 given to me in 25ltr drums by our Volvo loading shovel fitter for nowt. Also got the engine oil from the same fitter in a 25ltr drum all for the princely sum of nowt so all told except for my time the oil change is gonna cost me £6.49 for a TX55 bit.

Not too shabby considerin I know **** all about car maintenance :D

Aha, just a quick thing, I am new to land rovers, just got mine a month ago, this wade plug, does it need to be in or out when wading?/How does it work? I don't plan on doing any but if it floods at all around us it would be good to know. Thank you! :)

The general idea is to put it in when wading to prevent the water getting to the clutch/timing belt(on the front of the engine) you should take them out after prolonded wading to make sure no eTernal has got in and is now stuck. Some people just keep them in all the time is going into water a lot, but they should also take them out from time to time, especially the clutch one if your rear oil seal leaks(like most if them!)
