I was wondering if its OK to tow a disco if I put the transfer box into neutral. Its an auto-box or will I have to take the props off? Or is it the diffs that may get naffed, not sure if towing with a A-frame or dolly just waiting to see which I can get hold of. Thanks in advance Regards Steve.

It does have tax and test and I wasn't asking the legalities. A-frames are rated to 2 1/2ton

And only legal for use to recover a vehicle to a place of safety. by attaching a drawbar or aframe to a motor vehicle it has to meet C&U regulations for a trailer. and all fitted brakes and lights must work correctly. the trailer must also be capable of been reversed (you can't reverse on an Afame) and in the event that the trailer becomes detached from the towing vehicle the Aframe must not be able to trail on the floor and the trailer brakes must engage and stop it from running way.

Redhands advice is good. In the scheme of things hiring a trailer might be way cheaper than the possible consequences, especially if you're towing a distance.

so i guess it wasnt very legal of me to tow my last car from brighton to south wales on an Aframe back last year

Legal or not the man wants to know if it will cause any damage. If the props are off then there should be no rotating drive train so it should not cause any damage, transferbox in neutral I wouldnt but I'm sure somone will say why not. Again a trailer would be your best bet I hired one for £60 for the whole weekend. Jai

Another point is that not everybody has a driving licence that allows them to tow a trailer over 750kg which just about any car you can hook up behind you is.
