Worn Bearings?

My 12j has started to make a faint rattling noise when idling and after 20 minutes the oil light always comes on whenever I dip the clutch/stop. In bad traffic the temperature gauge creeps slowly up but if I can move steadily temperature quickly decreases.

I'm unaware of the exact mileage as it is the second engine to be installed. However as it is 30 years old I assume a mileage of 150,000 to 180,000 is accurate. I suspect worn bearings, if correct what should I be looking for? If not what else could it be? Thanks

Try a temperature sensor first.
Overheating wont be caused by bearings, stat, fan, blocked/silted rad would be my lines of enquiry on that.

The faint rattling noise could be the clutch thrust bearing, so don't worry about it for now :D
Drain your rad and refill with coca-cola, leave it for an hour and then flush it through. That should get rid of most opf the crap which has built up in the cooling system. ;)

+1 for the overheating. The heat may be thinning the oil enough to affect the pressure. If you haven't changed the oil recently, now is the time.
