Series 3 Won't turn over

check battery is well charged ,leads to starter have a good tight connection ,starters well earthed a jump lead can be used for that ie from starter to neg post on battery

Ok thanks I know battery is ok and I'll check the starter tomorrow. It just seems odd after six weeks of not being used it started first time this morning.

could be a poor connection on pos or neg or poor solenoid contacts or knackered starter, if you put a jump lead on the lower solenoid terminal below were battery lead is secured ,and touch other end on pos battery terminal and starter turns its a solenoid issue

Ok thanks very much for your help I'll have a look tomorrow
 
I've only just been able to get around to looking at it again because i work away from home and the wire from the alternator to the stater solenoid has worn through to the cooper and is shorting out on the engine block :(
 
I didnt read the message properly, thought he meant the exciter wire to the alternator :oops:

Haha tbh I was going to do that until
I realised it was down to the cooper all the way from the alternator to the starter solenoid
 
Just solved similar problem yesterday. Fitted new solenoid and started first time. Getting access to the solenoid is pretty fiddly underneath the air filter mounting. Back on the road yeah.:D
