Other Wishbone bushes

hi guys , can i pick ur brains plse

soon will have to also replace my rear upper wishbones , ive been comparing between either buying the arms with the bushes already fitted or getting a set of bushes and fitting them myself

i can get a complete set of bushes to replace all the upper and lower wishbone bushes

however my worry is i would have to get something like a 10 x ton press to get them out and back in again

these are the ones i’m looking at , made by pro flex

know that after i need to get the 4 x wheel laser alignment done , so was wondering if i spend some time and get all the rear bushes i won’t have to worry

but keep coming back to how on earth i can get them out

what do u think guys, as i’m thinking it’s only going to take longer with the bushes and cheaper , with the added benefit of having all 4 x rear wishbone bushes replaced

I would take Disco Mikeys advice and go with RR sport ones and be done with it, save ****ing about.
My experience with poly bushes on live axle landrovers isnt good and I wont be going there again ever.

many thks and was just looking through all the options

well i’m not one to ignore good advice and didn’t realise it can go wrong with some bushes

plus just seen this on the forum ref polybushes , christ almighty

may i ask , i see there is also a bush that goes on the upper hub ,just wonder if that has to also be replaced at the same time plse

is number 20 in the left hand picture , if so are the hubs replaced complete or just the bush pressed out plse

I was wondering that?

Apert from the cheap crap ones being cheap and crap all at the same time, the better quality and slightly more expensive ones are brilliant.

Not to mention that Gary wants to use them on wishbones on an axle with independent suspension.

I digress.

I'd get the poly bushes, a length of very similar internal diameter pipe, M12 thread rod, thick plate washers and some flat bar and wind them in that way, you can always use a reciprocating saw to cut through the old bushes and cut the old ones out surely?

I just had mine replaced as whole units, its quicker, but if your doing it yourself I also wonder whats whong with polly bushes?

+1 for polybushes - they might not last quite as long ... but they are so easy to replace that it becomes a non issue IMHO.

I also fail to see how the polybush in the picture above is in any way responsible for the very scary wishbone failure - I'd suggest ham fisted use of a press is a likely cause

wonder if it’s because of cheap replacement arms , or if some of the cheap bushes cause this , maybe indeed as mentioned too much force used with a press causing a hairline fracture then with the weight on it caused them to break ??

think maybe the best idea will for me is to get the complete arms , won’t have to worry struggling trying to get the old bushes out and back in again, mixed reports of having to use a press or not

these were the ones i’m looking at , the range rover sport ones are suppose to be slightly firmer and last better , fitted with the lemforder bushes

good it also comes with new bolts and then will get tracking redone after

struggling at the moment trying to get the M16 x 200mm bottom strut bolts out , to fit my new struts
