yesterday i put in the mudstuff console and mini pod in my 90 300tdi, it really looks good, but i now need to fit/buy, the gauges and switches so heres the questions

i am putting in five new gauges, rev, oil pressure, water temp, turbo boost, volt, they are all Tim gauges, but the oil and water temp are electrical rather than mechanical, which would be the best:confused:

i will be fitting carling switches to the mud dash once i buy them

but when i wire the roof bar lights through a relay to come on with the head lights i would like to be able to switch them off using one of the carling switches, does any one have a wiring diagram to show this:confused: looking at it it seems simple but a drawing would help

as for the gauges, whats wrong with the ones in the dash? (Water temp mainly)

rev - get a doosel one, and then connect the trigger wire to the 'W' connection on the alternator

oil pressure - id like one of these, the mechanical ones are said to be more reliable, but i dnt trust the pipe to not come off in my dash

water temp - again, whats up with the one in the dash?

turbo boost - ive got one of these, told me my turbo was on its way out. Connect it to the intake top hose, to get actual manifold pressure, not just turbo outlet pressure. Use a piece of solid wall clear pipe - can get you a pic of mine if you want?

volt - ive also got one of these - wire it to a switched live, (normally white) or else itll run all the time and use your battery.

I think your in for a bit of a time fitting all these :D

mechanical are said to be more accurate than electrical, but they wont be far off (3-4 degrees at most i have heard), I would ditch the boost pressure for oil temp or EGT though, otherwise a good choice of gauges. You could also fit this: National Luna

instead of a voltmeter. I have a dual one fitted in my mudstuff dash. they fit nicely if you remove one of the mouldings for the 12v acc. I have a pic somewhere but not on this laptop. I would also think about removing the original water temp and replacing it with your TIM guage, this would free up an extra space for you. I plan on doing this with a VDO when i get the time.

Boydy, IF you want accurate measurements the original water temp guage is pretty cras, there is no way of telling if your running hot or not unless its way over half. Under general conditions here in the UK isnt not much of a problem where the climate is more temperate but if it starts to rise you want to know if its still within safe limits. 300's are prone to undetected coolant leaks and warped cylinder heads. Best to keep ontop of it.

Might be worth fitting a low level sensor to the coolant res. while you are at it to.

In the process of building a circuit diagram to fit a Rangerover level sensor to my 90 header tank. I have the sender just need to make a circuit up to invert the output to light a dash warning lamp. Why these wern't fitted to Disco 1's I'll never know might have helped avoid alot of head gasket problems. I guess its because they are a lower spec of vehicle overall. Jai

just finished wiring in the roof lights all through relays etc looks good:D:D

i was thinking of removing the old water temp and replacing it, as u said 300tdi are prone to over heat and i want to make sure when off roading she doesn't heat up
will look at the other info and order the gauges when i can

Found me photo of my mudstuff with NL twin voltmeter. Its a bit crap on my phone and the sun was strong, but here it is none the less.
