hi everyone i have a 1988 bobtail rangerover will a 300tdi engine and box fit into it. my rangy is a 1988 v8 petrol.and weather it be out of a disco or 90.anyone know whats best

hi bob as i have not had a lanny or rangerover b4. i dont have a lot of technical knolege on them.i asked a friend who said i would have to move the engine mountings and reweld them. as not a problem doing the work as i have a unit and facilities to do it. but did not want to buy a engine and box and find i have loads of alterations to do. is it best to get a earlier 1 as if i had 1 out of a 98 would i need the ecu and all that stuff. regards paul

Rangey chassis is the same as a Disco chassis. You will have to fit new engine mounts for a 300tdi. you may also need to change the bell housings or even get an R380 gearbox. But as Daft said above Beast of Bodmin is the person you need to speak too.

..kin job boy.

300 is alot of work.

wot gbox u got ?

ive put in 200 tdi as this will sit on existing chassis mounts with the correct engine mounts.

If ya keeping the rr body it will be tough.

The baulkhead is different on the 300 range from the early V8 ones.you will have clutch issues and bell house space problems.Starter motor dont fit either.I beat the crap outta my baulk head and ended cutting a big hole for the motor nose.
The best theng to do is reweld the chassis.mounts to accept existing mounts on tdi.
use lt 5 speed box and 1.222 transferbox as this will give the correct ratios for the tdi.
The bolt in crossmember will need cutting out and rewelding with space for the prop to the front.
prop at rear is the same but the front prop is different on lt77 disco.

clutch slave and starter motor are on opposite sides and the oil coler is a pain in the arse.
I used extended pipes and a cooler rad from a slitty.Biggest problem i had was air intake...

used LDV kit outta scrap diesel job and intercooler pipe from another slitty scrap.

I moved teh radiator back to make room for intercooler and oil rad.
I have fitted a 200 tdi cos there better and useing correct mounts no chassis welding required.

the 300 has t b welded for mounts on V8 chassis. If you use existing mounts with a 200 it will have bonnet clearance issues. The back two injector pipes on the engine foul the bonnet. The disco bonnet has moor room.If you lower the mounts and use 300 tdi it will be ok.If 200 with V8 mounts it will need sorting as its hits scuttle panel and air intake for heater matrix demist. and wipers get in the way ....

when i think back its been a marathon.Worked tho if a little drafty where i cut out the transfer tunnel.

I covered this with the centre consol from disco.

its alot of work but i will have the best 4x4xfar....
