Time for an oil change on the disco, 145k miles on the clock, I changed it last year using 5w30 Semi-Synthetic (only done 2k miles between services)
What millage do you have? what grade do you guys/girls use? do you go with Semi or Fully Synthetic? how many miles do you go between services?

semi synthetic 10w/30 every 6 thousand, ensure you change axle and t/box and g/box oils regularly(yearly on average miles) too, most i see these get neglected

I think ill get a good few years out of the gbox tbox and diffs without having to change oil for all the use it gets. But engines like all my other cars ive owned get done every year regardless of millage

My Ninety does about 2,500 miles a year on average. I change all the oils and brake fluid every year.

every 6k fully synthetic for mine its worth the extra few quid

i presume that those oils starting with 10W are used in V8s not Td5s or if it's in Td5s they are used in Sahara? ... IMO for UK climate 10W oil for Td5 engine is completely unproper... no matter if it runs smooth with it or not cos there's a difference between the case when the engine is running without problems or if it's the best for it or not . The best for Td5 are fully synthetic 5W30/40 oils which are dedicated for unit injector/PD engines, cos that's what the Td5 is.

some info here Oil grade? And how much? but i debated this thing many times with same kind of arguments an i'm convinced about that... but i'm not gonna start again

10W/30 (as recommended in the owner's handbook) semi-synth every year at MoT/service time, about 5000 miles.

Transmission train, they get the recommended grades every two years.
i think your owner's handbook covers only the V8 then o_O ...or where you live there's never colder than -10*C?

The lowest ever recorded temperature in a coastal area of South Wales (I'm about 12 miles from the sea) was -10.7 deg.C on 13 January 1987 at RAF Brawdy in Pembrokeshire. This from the Met Office website.

So I can quite confidently say that the possibility of temperatures below -10 are not something I need to worry unduly about.

The viscosity chart on page 108 (Lubrication) of the workshop manual in RAVE for the Disco 2 Td5 engine shows that 10W/30 is usable over the range of -20 C to +35 C.

You've said owner's handbook, i've checked there (page 197) and it's a table where all 10Ws are going to min -10 there, and 10W30 what you said is not recommended for Td5 at all, only 10W40...either way it's not good for Td5 IMO, cos below 0 it's already too thick, it can affect even consumption because of that, and the 10W30 recommended by you is going untill max 30*C which is often exceeded in Europe... maybe as long as you never leave your country you can use it but it's the worst choice from all that chart there

Mines a Td5 running 10W40 as recommended in the Haynes manual. -10 is not common here although I have had -12 on the digital display a couple of winters back and had +35 in France last year.

128,000 miles
5w30 engine 6,000 (ish) fully synthetic
mtf 94-g/box- 2 years
75w90 diffs/trans-2 years
all oils from same provider

I see there's a mix and match of folk using Semi or Fully synthetic, everyone to their own opinion though which is good to see. My opinion on the two different types is Fully Synthetic for sports engines, large petrol engines, long service interval schemes like the 2 year service interval some manufacturers come out with nowadays and Semi for high millage diesels....lol but after reading above im tempted to start using Commas 5w/40 PD oil
