hi all my back diff is whining on my p38 can anyone tell me what spline it is i aws going to strip it down today and have a look but its been ****ing it down all day my mate has got a range rover classic will that diff fit thanks look forward to any helpfull replys.

how did u pin point that it is ur rear diff?what do u hear?i am asking coz maybe it can be something else then the diff.does it fluctuate with speed?if yes at wht speed?

the only change in sound is it really sounds coggy when travelling slow say about 5mph and whistles when travelling at from 40 to 70mph sounds a bit like you got cheap off road tyres on if that helps

what is a vcu????

The Viscous Coupling Unit, it acts as a centre diff lock. If it's seized it can cause some of the problems you describe although it's usually the front diff that suffers.
To check it, jack one front wheel off the ground, it should be possible to turn it with a great deal of effort. If it cannot be turned at all the VCU has seized:eek:

checkt the vcu and i carnt turn the wheel at all ? is it a big fix and how much:
before saying cant move it put a wheel brace on the jacked wheel and lean on it.Theres a video on here somewhere, its hard work gettinbg it moving

I can turn mine by gripping the tyre and heaving, it's hard but it does turn:D If the VCU has seized, fix that first. I check mine at every service.
