Which would be easier, gearbox out or engine out?

So with all the work done on increasing my 200tdi auto's power output (pump tweaks, bigger turbo and intercooler, lpg injection, beefed up aschcroft auto box and torque convertor), I've finally managed to break something after only a couple thousand miles. Heard a knocking noise on idle a few days back which turned out to be a cracked flex plate. In replacing this, would it be easier to remove just the transmission or do I have to take out the engine? Secondly, does anyone know if there is a tougher flex plate that will fit the 200tdi as that is the only remaining original stock item in my driveline.
Thanks.

id be looking at how the plate is fitted on crank boss, and whether its shimmed to fit torque convertor and box, whether bolts had come loose etc before refitting

The thought of working with those weights underneath the vehicle does not appeal much to me either. I'm just slightly bothered about A/C and all the other ancillaries that would have to be taken out before the engine comes out. Its taken me awhile to get my A/C to work as well as it does now so I'd rather leave it alone...

I dont know with out looking but some vehicles ive worked on you can move AC pump and PS pump out the way on there fexi pipes without undoing pipes

If you have an engine crane get the A/C degassed and take the engine out.
unless you have a ramp and a transmission jack the box will be very difficult to get back in.

I do have an engine crane, but considering all the issues I had with my A/C in the past, I was kinda hoping I wouldn't have to tamper with it now that it works trouble-free.
Anyway, one way or the other, looks like the engine will be coming out next weekend as its already too late to try to start anything this weekend. Took me all day yesterday to source a replacement part, partly because half that time was wasted trying to find a stronger alternate to the stock item.

you have lpg injection on a 200tdi engine???
Just realized that maybe you must be assuming I mean my 200tdi runs exclusively on lpg like the v8 powered landys.
It certainly does not. What it has is an lpg fumigation setup that introduces metred amounts of lpg into the induction air of a diesel engine to ensure a more thorough burn, improved engine output, reduce exhaust emissions and when properly setup, significantly reduces the clatter of diesel knock at loads.
