I need to get a jack for my Disco TD5, should I go for a standard bottle jack or does it have to be a special LR one?

As far as I can see it's only the top of the jack that's different - the Landy ones have a curved tube at the top, the standard ones have a solid disc?

Cheers

The advantage with the LR bottle jack is that the curved tube at the top fits neatly into the notches on the radius arms which denote the jacking points. It will also fit into the jack's cubby hole in the battery compartment, and you will know it has sufficient lifting capacity. The original LR kit also contains chocks in the boot drawer for securing the diagonally opposite wheel.

for off road work...

hi lift is a great bit if kit, but the disco has no points for it unless you add them yourself...

you also got to find a place to store it as they are big and heavy.

if you want an off road jack, hi lift is the way to go but you'll be changing bumpers or adding treebars to give it somewhere to bite.

you can also rig it as a winch/puller if you got the right bits of chain.

but dont discount an exhaust jack, a 4 tonne one will lift a disco with ease and can be slid under your motor when its stuck deep in a rut to lift it out.
