I'll be getting 2 (this month) Insa Turbo tyres this week, needed desperately as lost a tyre yesterday.

I'm deciding between Dakars or Mountains or Rangers.

Anyone got any input?

Drive 40 miles a day on the motorway, and laning, p&p when I can. Want something at least half decent off road.. and ideally something that I'm not going to be more likely to crash on the road with :D

Oh, and having two on the back wheels and two Pirelli Scorpions on the front will be ok for a bit, right?

Rangers with that much road use and just laining it's what I use there just a copy of bf goodrich AT tyers and have not let me down.

I'm thinking more the Dakar tyre so I can get out to pay and plays.

Is the road noise anything more than a whine over 55mph (like i've heard)?

I reckon I could deal with that if they're gonna look beefy and perform well at sites.

What are your thoughts about having just two on with two random tyres?

Appreciated! Realise nobbody wants another tyre thread but I have actually read all of them :D

I had them on a 90 that I had there is a fare bit of noise bur don't think it will be as loud in a disco

Is the Insa Turbo Dakar Tyre easy to source? I have been looking round for a set of off road tyres and most types seem to be out of stock.

i have been looking for insa dakar also. could not source anywhere. torn between insa turbo 1, or turbo 2, or turbo 3.

The answer's in the question... Insa Turbos are remoulds. Never, ever use remoulds if you drive on motorways a lot, they're notoriously dangerous no matter how good they are. And I speak from experience.

A few years ago I used remoulds on an old Escort estate because I couldn't afford new. Was driving to Manchester at a steady 65mph and the front near-side tire decided to separate, with extreme prejudice.

Luckily the truck behind me was able to slow down and block the traffic while I pulled over to the hard shoulder (still very grateful for this) but the wheel arch was destroyed by the exploding tyre and was ultimately beyond repair.

For keeping on a spare set of wheels for off-road/winter use, they're fantastic, but I'd never trust them for daily use.

I have a some Rangers on at the mo' - they seem very hard wearing. I also have a set of Sahara which I sometimes wang on the beast but to be honest they aint for the road.

When was this? I read now that modern remoulds are perfectly safe, have to go through vigorous testing, and are constructed in a different way to the ways of old..

Get yourself a set of insa traction tracks they're a copy of the old bfg trac edge,a little bit noisey on road but handle well even in the wet and are really good offroad.
We went to the south of france this year in the disco and did 3000 miles in 2 weeks on traction tracks with no probs.

This is what they look like

They sound good to me! What sort of noise level can I expect? I'll be doing uppto 85 on them.. but need to get amp/sub sorted anyway :D

You might want to check the speed rating on them :)

I reguarly do around 70/75 on my Kingpins but try not to push them more than that. You will find they wear out quicker on the roads as well as they are quite soft.

Just need to drive along any motorway and you'll see de-laminated tyres at the roadside. Yes, they're generally safer than ever, but still have inherent risks associated with the manufacturing process.

Personally, I'd never touch one again, unless on a set of steels for laning.
