I'm not special I'm limited edition
The idler pulley which goes in place of the air con pulley has decided to begin self destructing on my 1999 TD5 110. (the one to the right of the viscous van and in front of the rotary oil filter).

I know that there are 2 different types of idler pulley on the TD5 but can't work out what the part number is for the one I require as I keep finding conflicting information.

does anyone know for certain the part number that I require?

cheers

Bugger! missed this.

Did mine only couple o weeks ago

Could a told ya

Had to renew my crankshaft damper too

I've caught mine early on so hopefully my Crank pulley is ok.

I've bought a genuine idler and thought that I might as well replace the fan belt while I was at it so have a genuine belt coming too.

I'm toying with buying and fitting a new genuine tensioner pulley too so I can keep both the current useable tensioner and fan belt on board as emergency spares.

Just out of curiosity how much did you manage to get a crankshaft damper for?

I was a very lucky boy :)

I got a second hand OEM one for £150

Could have had a new Britpart one for £360

Or a new OEM for about £550 :faint2:

I've looked at the price of them a few times before now. I was kind of hoping that the prices would start coming down but obviously not.:(

I might just keep my eyes open in case I ever see one going cheap.

If you've not fitted your belt yet go try turning the damper. If you can move it by hand it's fecked for sure.

I'm not sure if there's an inbetween I just noticed mine was goosed when I replaced the idler. I'm pretty sure I would have noticed the spanners in the sump sound before the idler went.
I suspect it was the idler siezing and snapping the belt that did it

I'm still waiting for the noo belt to arrive.:mad::mad:

my belt Is still intact and in fact my idler is still good enough that I an start and run the engine for several minutes. I caught it quite early on.

I'll have a wiggle of the damper when I take go for the change over.

I've just looked on ebay and there are a couple of second hand ones on there for around the price that you paid.:)

Ya know thinking about it, at no service interval that I can think of does it say check or grease auxillary belt pulley's

You can get the bearing itself for the idler pulley. I may look into rebuilding the old idler to carry as a spare (depending on he bearing cost).

The bearing number is 6303-2RS.

If the bearing price is too high it's not worth doing. Especially as the whole pulley was only £20 for a genuine one.

From what I can gather it int a very common issue wiv TD5's I was probably just unlucky that I hadn't noticed the bearing getting hot.

There's alot to be said for not always having the stereo blasting

TD4's apparently have issues with crankshaft dampers though I believe they are at least a little cheaper :D

Good call ;)

I kept the old idler pulley but I think the bearing has welderised itself in pretty good  :D :D :D

I'm led to believe that the tensioner pulley uses the same bearing too, so it could be worth my while just keeping a bearing on board instead of carrying spare tensioner and idler pulleys.:scratching_chin:

Ha ha "Carrying spare parts in your Landy" springs to mind again :D :D :D

I paid £21.36 for my idler pulley so would be interesting to see how much the bearing is :scratching_chin:

was that a genuine pulley?

I bought mine for £19.99 for a genuine one.

The blue boxed ones weren't far off the price of the genuine:eek::eek::eek:. I ended up paying £18.52 for the genuine belt. I decided I'd rather keep my old belt as a spare than carry around a new one in a blue box. It has to be more reliable.:D

Yup genuine would have been £17.80 without V.A.T.

If I can come up with a way to put it on the books I could get the Vat back :D :D

I could only get a bluebox belt though

As soon as I can get a genuine one I'll swap em ;)
