I have just replaced one of my turbo hoses the one that comes from the rear of the front head light. I got mine from Bearmach 4 x 4 Caerphilly, it cost £29 for the hose this was for a pre 2004 model the one for the 2004 to 2006 model has a sensor in the hose and costs around £49 from a main dealer. If you get the pre 2004 model hose all you have to do is cut about 2.5 inches off the end and it will fit.

If you look on page 90/91 you will see the hoses there.

Does anyone know the internal diameter of the hoses for the turbo vacuum pipes?

The long one coming from the intercooler to the intake duct is 52mm (2") as is the short straight one after the air temp sensor.

The 90degree bend one is larger at 57mm (2.25")

The 90degree one could be sourced as a standard bend, but if you just buy a straight length of 52mm silicon hose it will not fit correctly as the hose needs to be moulded to the correct 'S' shape to avoid kinks, which will do the air-flow no good.

Here's a pic of mine.

Did you also change the pipe that comes out of the intercooler into the turbo?

The big corrugated silicon pipe on the left is from the under-wing air intake to the top air-duct which feeds round into the air-cleaner.

You may see that I fitted a wider / stronger 'T' bolt hose clamp at the point where the 90 degree bend hose enters the EGR by-pass. Oil fumes and mist from the turbo tends to collect there and seep through.

If you fit any new silicon hoses be sure to go back over them and re-tighten after a week or so.

But I believe there is also a pipe from the output of the intercooler that feeds into the Turbo, did you change that as well? (Looking from front of engine towards rear of car its part the way down the intercooler on the right hand side)

OK, I know the exact big pipe you mean now. It's from the turbo outlet, feeding hot oil-vapour-laden air into the intercooler radiator.

No, I did not re-new it. For some reason that hose seems to survive longer than the top ones. It also is a funny shape so it too would need to be a formed / moulded hose.

I do not know of anyone who supplies these in silicone. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable than I will come along and tell us. It would of course be available as a standard rubber item from any LR dealer.

Thanks for your help guys, in the end I have ordered some standard replacement pipes. The originals have lasted 100,000 miles, so they will outlast my ownership of it! LOL

The pipe that goes to the intercooler looks very difficult to access, particularly the jubilee clip. Looks like it was put on with the intercooler.

Any suggestions on removing this?

Not having a double-jointed dwarf in my tool-box, I had difficulty with this too - as you say it was most likely fitted to the intercooler before fitting on the vehicle.

I used a small 7mm (I think) open-end spanner which I just managed to wiggle into place, after a few goes the jubilee was just loose enough to turn it round using a good bit of force and a big screwdriver. I was told afterwards that I was lucky as it's easy to damage the intercooler pipe itself.

Once I had the jubilee off I then had a load of hassle getting the actual hose itself off. I cut off as much as I could with a stanley knife and then used a very small screwdriver to lift all around the pipe from the inside of the hose.

A very dirty job accompanied by language not suitable for little children or those of a nervous disposition.

Good luck and I hope you get your hands clean afterwards. (Hint - use Lidl multi-purpose de-greaser - the one in the orange spray bottle - it's better than Swarfega)

I think I have a 7mm ratchet spanner. Don't know if I can get this to fit.

Will have a go, thanks!
