Where is the best and most cost effective place to buy a new 4.6 engine or preferrably recondtioned engine for a p38.
Kind regards
Matt

Hi,

If I was looking for a engine I would talk to RPI V8, they know there stuff. Whats the resoning for a new engine?. If you going to spend 4k I would rebuild what you have got including remanchining the block to take the top hat liners. Thats what I did a few months back. My total cost for parts was 2.5K but that was at cost, I replaced every thing so it was a brand new lump. and I build the unit took me a week mind. But If your not sure about doing it your self then add another 1500 - 2000 to it and a good garage would remove, strip, build and refit for that.

Hi.
Bought my engine from RPi and fitted it myself. I did not want to go to all the trouble of taking out the engine, putting a recon built by someone else in as i could'nt do the work myself and having to fight if it went wrong as it's just too much trouble but, they are not cheap, around £3800 (they have two different prices and if your lazy you dont find the cheaper one, allegedly) I did have someone who let me use his ramp and dragged my dead truck in and out. My friend bought the old engine off me and rebuilt it with top hat liners etc for use in his mad 90.
The only problem i had was that the parcel company LOST the whole engine for three day's and only found it with me doing all the leg work at whick point they tried to blame RPi.

Cheers, Nick.

Hi
I had my engine rebuilt with top hat liners, i did consider an engine from RPI but as i am not getting rid of the car in the near future and RPI`s engines still have the straight liners i decided on hopefully the permanent fix. I am lucky i got to know the lads at a locol garage that works a lot on p38`s and they done it in their spare time, cost me 2200 for the rebuild, machining, bearings etc. I can however Recomend RPI as i spoke to them about a new cam to fit in the rebuild, and i ended up with a fast road piper cam, duplex chain and gears and new followers and all the gaskets for a very good price. The couriers also lost these for 24 hours but i did get it in the end.
All the best
Mark
