Hi. It's a series 3 2.25 petrol. Bores have been honed. Ready to put the pistons back in with nice new rings. Not sure where to put the gaps. How about as per the drawing? What do you all think?

I started cleaning and preparing the pistons today and yet again my lack of knowledge has caused things to grind to a halt.

There are some subtle differences in the new rings compared to the old ones. I don't know if they are going to make any difference or not.

I have checked the part number on Craddocks website and I don't think I can go wrong.

I've done some real classy drawings of the profile of the old compression rings. The top ring is an oblong profile the middle one has a bevel as shown.
The new rings are both just plain oblong.

The oil control rings are really different. If you look at the pictures of the instruction sheet that came with the rings the old one is the one in fig.5 (helicoil coil spring) and the new set is the type in fig 6 (steel segmental ring).

So the question is do these differences make any difference?
