Wheel bearing

Hi

The wheel bearing is a complete hub unit costing about £170. It is easy enough DIY but there is a stake nut that holds in on that needs torqued up mega tight. There is a DIY guide on www.discovery2.co.uk

BLRC at Saintfield are highly regarded LR independants although very busy, so you might have to wait a couple of weeks.

There is a new LR service place just opened on the Crawfordsburn Road in Ards where the old Hursts Renault place used to be. No idea about them but handier than Saintfield:)

Avoid main dealer at all costs;)

Cheers, Andy

I had a rear hub issue, so bought a 2nd hand one from a breakers in England. It was still attached to the half shaft so didn't need the stake nut re-torqued. It's been good for about a year now. The part was £50 odd and it was the guts of £90 inc delivery. As I was able to fit is myself I was happy enough with that.

BLRC have a TD5 that they are breaking parts off so may have a 2nd hand hub. I got a 2nd hand throttle off them at crimbo. Worth a phone call maybe.

Although the wheel bearings are dear, overall I've been happy with LR spares prices. Some are suprisingly cheap, especially compared to Jap & German parts, although you maybe wouldn't need as many off those.

Cheers, Andy :)

Buy a used one, you can get the complete front shaft, hub and CV joint for £85-£90, look at username 'landroverspareparts' on ebay, he has some on there, contact is Ric.

We bought two complete axles from a 2003 Disco 2 last year, just as spares 'in case', we also got a complete R380/LT230 box assembly.

Cheap insurance against mechanical derangement.

What mileage had yours done?

Peter
