25d is 3.5 efi h/c 86 onwards ,35d is 3.9 efi h/c 88 onwards, 35d has larger bores
presuming your talking about the numbers stamped near dipstick tube

Hi James, I also snapped a head bolt when putting the heads back on, 28 new ones, the back of the block has SV stamped on it, so would that be why its had a lump change ?

there often several markings but they wont mean much now, at the time batch numbers ,casting numbers etc etc ,its the stampings on machined surface near dipstick tube that matter

Yeah, that starts with 35, oh & I found out that she served with the SAS in NI, loads of extra relays & empty wires under the bonnet, she quick too, but great on juice.

Yeah, but a bitch to sort out when it wont start, even with easy start sprayed over the air rams, pulling the lump out on Saturday to strip it down & start again.
She's great, but just like a woman, always has the last word.....Don't care, not starting..

did it fire on easy start

Yep, I think so, I rang Andy at Famous Four today & gave him the etc number on the dizzy & he thinks its from a 4.2 lump. She's been
off the road for a month now after I put new head gaskets on & had the heads skimmed, but that's all, even with a snap on diagnostic unit
I didn't get an answer. Still could be worse.

I was just looking at RPi's A&R Power amp, maybe the spark ive got isn't strong enough, I'll see what happens when I've put a new timing chain on & re-timed it by hand.

id check amps producing a signal for the coil and if so what spark the coil produces pre the dizzy ie plug on king lead, and voltage drop on postive at coil on cranking,

Good idea, i'll do that, do you use Famous Four for parts, I've found them very helpful, so I buy there with confidence.
i have my own accounts ,but i do use them very regularly as a few of my customers have accounts with famous four plus i do stuff for them, there are pretty good with parts in that they try and sell maybe not the cheapest but reasonable quality unlike many were its just the cheapest shit that fails quick or isnt fit for use

I bought an altenator from Dingo Croft in High Wycombe, Lucas Electrik it says on the label. Baring failed after 3 months, cheap Chinese crap.
Had the old one refurbished for £20 & he re-built it as watched using an English baring from the same company that supplied Land Rover in the old units, then I polished it to a chrome finish. He also skimmed the heads by 12 thou for £60-- the pair. So I dropped him an extra tenner for a job well done.
