Many threads on this subject already and many different opinions.
Personally I stripped mine back to bare metal, 2 thick coats of Hammerite then 2 coats of waxoyl over the top. Renew waxoyl annually.
Make sure you get plenty of paint/waxoyl/whatever inside your chassis as well

Yes,thats a good way to do it.Make sure you scrape all the loose rust off,it will take you a while but once done and you waxoil it every year it will last a good while.

Just been doing mine today on D2...hammerite like paint on the outside after scraping rust off. Doing second coat tomorrow. Bought some Techtyl ML for filling inside of chassis. Will spray outside coats with techtyl (cant remember the exact version) for extra protection. Have read many reviews not recommending waxoyl, but havent tried myself.

There is nothing wrong with Waxoil. As in all things its in the preparation and how you apply it. It needs to be either hot enough, or thinned enough with white spirit to let it penetrate any rust areas and leech into all the nooks and crannies. If its applied too thick/cold, it just forms a skin over the rust and the rust continues to eat away at your chassis under it. Personally, I thin it with used engine oil and get it hot using a gas ring.

when people refer to waxoyl do they mean shuts or the clear waxoyl ? and whats the best way to apply it spray or brush on

Schutz is different from Waxoil as its a Bitumen based under seal. Waxoil is as in the name, a mix of Wax & Oil. Waxoil comes in black or clear. To confuse matters, you could try Dinatrol. Its expensive, and they recommend a different product for inner and outer of chassis.

I'm doing mine in the near future, I'd like to just hameright it but I think waxoyl ads protection from stone chips so I'm thinking clear maybe beter because that way you can actually see if any new rust apears

Was going to ask about dinatrol, looks a bit better than waxoyl, does it work better

Never used it, but it must be better as its expensive

Waxoil doesn't protect against stonechips. This stuff does though. Not sure if I would apply it over rust however.

Ok thanks, if given a good full coverage of hammeright what's the benefit of then applying waxoyl? Cheers

Not sure what the benefit would be, if any to be honest. When it comes to LR chassis, continuous maintenance is the secret. Its not a hit it once and forget thing I'm afraid. Unless you get it galavanised..:)

Thanks
Suppose it saves me a job! Il just apply it on the inside of the chassis

You will still need something on the outside as well though. Lots of opinions on here on what is best if you do a search. I am debating on spraying inside of chassis with old engine oil next time i do mine, but its not going to win me any popularity contests if you listen to some...:p

Anyone used frost por 15 chassis paint, and how much do you need for a disco chassis?

Yes, it's good stuff, dries quickly and very hard, goes a long way and a complete nightmare to get off your face (basically took a week or so to wear off!)

Prep is really important in terms of removing loose stuff with wire brushes, degreasing, drying, there is then another liquid to spray on and dry before starting with the por15

Quantity wise I think I used 5 of the small tins
