what's going on?

since yesterday(sat) my keyfob will not lock or unlock my car, but only outside my own home, everywhere else it works perfectly.
i can lock it and unlock it, manually with key but pressing the buttons does not do anything, anywhere else that i have tried it the buttons work fine.
i have since found out that i have a new neighbour, that moved in saturday, coincedence? or could they be using something that will stop my keyfob working?

try to see what range around the house it will work at, if you park progressively closer to home then the culprit can be narrowed down!

unfortunately, i cannot park any closer to my place than the garage near the back door , which is the furthest away from any other houses

youll have to move it progressivley futher away in that case, you will look crazy tho and people will stare!

could it be the batterys that are dying. also put the key to your head and try it, this trick gets me extra time outta the extortionatly priced batteries!

new batteries fitted 2 months ago, also i have tried the 2 spare keys and neither will work , outside my own home, but all work elsewhere

its either wifi or some other signal operating on the same 433.9mhz( or is it 422?? cant remember) frequencyor a Klingon Bird-of-Prey in cloak mode!

from reading loads of previous threads, i thought that wifi was the blame for keeping the becm awake, not stopping you from using the keyfob's

it could do if it was on the same frequency i suppose by confusing it somehow, but then wifi is everywhere these days so it would happen all over the place. plus wifi works on 2.4 ghz band!

WiFi is 2.4ghz but there are disruptive effects from some kit on other frequencies near the source. Lots of other kit uses lower frequency wireless connections from doorbells to old analogue wireless telephones. I have a little transmitter that plugs into my sat box and relays English radio around the house (I live in France) often used with iPods It has a range of about 50 metres and operates on the same frequency band as the P38.
If the problem coincided with your new neighbour arriving, might be worth introducing yourself and asking if he has any wireless kit operatin

Worst that could happen is he socks you one:doh::doh::doh:

I have a system that blocks an area round me house to intruders.it hides my wifi etc.the neighbours might be private people...

I have had a similar problem with the Rangie in the past and in fact, regularly have the problem with another vehicle when parking in specific areas - ham radio transmitters can cause this interference as can two-way radio systems,/ walkie talkies on frequency 433Mhz perhaps the neighbour has a two-way radio or is a radio ham?

Anything that broadcasts on 433 mhz (remote weather stations etc) is going to give you trouble. At the minimum they're going to keep your Becm awake leading to battery drain.

You need to disconnect the key fob aerial behinf the back seat and see if it solves the issue. Do a search here to get good instructuions.

maybe, just a coincedence, but i looked outside just now and the new neighbours car is not there, tried the keyfobs, all opened and shut the car as normal,
looks like i am going to have to find out what they are using, if i can ever find them at home, or answer the door.

Could be a fancy car alarm, I have one that has a radar like security zone around the vehicle (motorbike), if anyone gets too close it triggers the alarm.

if you have a laptop, do a scan of wifi, see whats there, then when car dont work do same and compare!
