Hi All, I have wanted to buy a Disco for some time and eventually convinced my wife its the right car for our needs. I've taken a good look at this site and am mightily immpressed by the knowledge and help you all give each other.

As a potential newbie to Landy's can you tell me what to look for when buying a 99 disco td5 es? I've seen a manual 5 seater with 117000 miles, almost a full service history and what appears to be in mint condition for £4999. Any help / advice would be most welcome. Thanks in advance.:)

Hi
The price seems a little high for something thats done 117k miles, maybe a dealers forecourt price ?

TD5s are a lot less prone to rust compared to the 200/300 series, but as its a 99 plate the rust will slowly be settling in, so its worth a good check for rust

Also the TD5 engine is more complex than the 200/300 ones and its not as easy to work on, a common fault is oil in the wiring harness

As for the 117k miles, this would be nothing for a 300TDI, but for a TD5 i would consider finding a lower mileage one ( just my opinion ), and if you have 5k to spend im sure you could find a slightly newer, lower mileage one.

In my opinion its worth about £3900 if its in good condition

Thanks for that advice. Yes it is from a garage but appears to be in mint condition. I'm holding back at the moment as the garage don't have the V5 which I find disturbing but have the rest of the documents. They say they took it in P/ex and the previous owner couldn't find it so has sent for a new one.

I would rather buy from a garage as at least I will have some comeback if there are any problems. As such I expect to pay a little more but it's hard to guage the right price being new.

I will check ebay though.

Mine is a 99 plate TD 5 ES, a good car so far but with 117k you should expect some troubles.

I paid 6000 pounds for mine but the prices are much higher here. No full service history but some kind of used car garanty. Since then they had to fix the front brakes, steering, HG, central locking, heated windscreen, wheel bearings and some other small problems.

I`m with 300Tdi, you`d better go for a newer model.
