What gearbox do I have?

Sorry to be a newbie, I am trying to get to know my 1985 CSW 90. The engine was replaced in 1997 and the receipt for the work mentions that the transfer box was reconditioned and the gear ratio changed (why was this done?)

The recipt also says that "Excahnge used 5 speed gearbox with TDI engine". To select reverse I have to go left and up. Is this a LT77 gearbox?

Out of interest, why did they change the gear ratio for the transfer box when replacing the original 2.25 petrol with the 200 TDI? Many thanks

They fitted a Disco T/F box, which has a higher ratio, which makes for more relaxed cruising than the Defender box. The Low range ratios are the same though.

it would have been 1.610 which is really to low for 200tdi

To have a higher gear ratio for more refined crusing, not so good for heavy towing though.
