Evening!

I'm after new axles for a series 1 86", the current rear one is a 'semi-floating' type and wanted something more like a later series axle or defender. It has a modded 3.5 V8 so after something a little beefed up... it has LT77/230 (5speed) boxes in, so ratios aren't too crucial...

I've heard that later series axles won't fit too easily, and I know defender ones will require modifying for the leaf springs and shocks.

Any help appreciated!

Cheers.

Short wheelbase series rear a straight fit,Later series front is much the same as as original axle but given its a V8/230 then Defender front with its CV joints a better job with tighter turning angle and better brakes as well.

the later defender and series 3 axles are 2 inch wider than the series 1 being the obvious the last version series 1 axle being a fully floating axle but the problem is a shortage of the longest
drive shaft you may snap a few.
the mod to overcome the shortage being to fit series 3 shafts with a 2 inch spacer as fitted to my series 1 1957 88 diesel you can go to the expense of having american imported drive shafts that have been designed
for some american 7 litre v8 conversions of the series 1 very expensive
as for stopping there is a front brake conversion kit by Heystee using new swivel housing/drive flange and the defender vented discs and calipers as fitted to mine
not cheap
