Hi Guys I am new to this forum so be gentle....
I have owned a number of Landrovers over the years but recently bought a Series 2A which has a very weird large air tank under the passenger seat and an "air servo/rubber jobby" next to the brake master cylinder.....
Can anyone advise me what they are for and what does the H suffix mean on the VIN..? 24141429h

Thanks.. check out the pics.

Welcome to lz! :)

Would that be a six cylinder 2a? From memory, they had an inline servo in the brake pipe after the master cylinder. Pics of the servo itself would be helpful.

I think you are right, the air tank is probably a reservoir for the inline servo. Looks like a big one, but then everything is bigger in Merka! ;) :)

Thanks..... its an original 4 cylinder engine. The tank is MASSIVE... as is the servo. Its in the UK not "Merka"......:)

Its not connected to the master cylinder and if the whole thing isn't anything special I will remove it all before I export it to "Merka"...

It must be connected to the master cylinder, or it wont work!! The connection will be hydraulic. Servo is in the brake line.

Try and post some clear pictures, a view of the whole underbonnet helps us to work out what you have. If in doubt, use a camera, not a phone, and take your time.

There is no reason you cannot return to an original setup, it may make the export easier.

Thanks for the help.... The servo has a lever on the end which isn't connected to anything.
I am actually an Engineer restoring exotic motorcycles etc so happy to remove the "crap" but didn't want to if its some rare one off beasty...!!!
Apologies for the photos I had to get my sister to take them and the Landy is parked outside but not very accessible.

There is a large bore rubber (slightly rotting) hose coming from a fitting on the intake manifold to the tank...??? Then same type of hose runs back across the firewall to the large bellows under the right hand wing.

Mmmmm. A compressor of sorts. Some kinda DIY servo brake system. The standard brake system for the 2a is non servo assisted so you could return to that. I'm not sure if you could fit an S3 servo unit. They can be bought but are a spare part sold at a premium price. If it was me I'd rip out that system and just have the standard set up. At least it would be original.
