i cant remember the wattage of a standard alternator on a disco 300 tdi (standard ) only im going to have to buy a new battery , am going down to mole valley farmers to get the biggest tractor one that will fit in there , i just need to know the output of the alternator please thanks all :D:D

also don't forget any alternator will charge any size battery just bigger the battery capacity the longer it will take to charge, smae principle applies when running a split charge relay. it does not realy matter the output capacity of the alternaor, that really applies more to the kit you are running, for example if when you have heater, ligths etc on you draw more current than your alternator can charge then you will start to drain your battery, thats more importnat than the size of the battery.

Recommend you have it put on charger to fully condition it prior to fitting it, as it's possibly been sitting on shelf for a while. If possible, decide what you want day prior to going and get the shop to do it, if you haven't got correct charger, and if you maintain it with charger on a regular basis it'll last you a heck of alot longer especially as you are getting a heavy duty one, they'll die just as quick as a cheap one if neglected. A lot of battery shops don't tell you this any more, cause most batteries will make it to just past the warranty period, then it's your problem.
 
Where you mounting your 2hd ALT?Air con bracket?

out of 6 dicos owned so far half came with 80s,half 100s....if and when needed I always put a 100 on.

with this weather thinking about putting another battery in parallel,no split charge,in the opposite side where the jack lives....thoughts?Apart from sod off you thread hi jacking git?;)s

never, repeat NEVER connect another battery without a split charge system, yu can knacker both batteries.
 
Pardon my ignorance..really!We used parallel batteries on 7.5 tonners in the past....and no,before anyone says they were 24 v systems they werent,simply 12s in parallel.We used no special wiring or relays.It was merely that we had oversized engines in the lorries with a lot of preheating that mullered batteries so that they didnt have the juice to turn over.What would be the difference?

I mean it when I say pardon my ignorance,Im just a spanner monkey,not an auto electrician!:eek::(:confused:

all you need is a 100 amp relay between the aux and starter batts, relay goes live once started (radio feed) and then joins batteries

when turned off two separate batteries again

mitsubishi pajeros with the winter pack fitted run 2 batteries in parallel
with no split charge fitted, they made thousands of em without a problem.
 
As I understand it, the problem is to be found in using mis-matched batteries - ie one new and one with less life left in it, thereby creating a difference between the two and one will "load" the other one. A manufacturer would, one assumes, fit two new batteries, thereby reducing any differences.
