Had issues with the footwell being swimming so today I removed the carpet and lifted the soundproofing (water retention device) to find some rusty duct tape and a big dodgy badly repaired rusty bit. Not a happy bunny but at least now I'm positive the water is coming from the bottom up not top down like sun roofs or whatever.


Just need to try and dry it all out now and see if I can patch it up, can't be a dangerous hole in it because it passed it's mot a few months ago and this is not a new problem.

Unless youve been doing a lot of deep water driving lately, my money is that the water is coming top down.

You just want to believe that hole is the problem cause its an easy fix. My money is on the windscreen or something equally difficult.

I spent a day removing carpets and siliconing every crack and gap i could see, took the hose pipe and pressure washer to the car not a drop comes in. Thought i'd fixed it, then it rains over night. next morning big pools of water as usual. I've just given up now. Landerovers are meant to leak, theres no point fighting it.
 
but nothing up top shows any signs of damp and I have been through some flooding a few times in the last week. I'll take photos later when I'm drying it out.
 
Lesson learned, stop making assumptions when people who have way more experience try to tell you. Took the headlining fully out today and the roof was soaking like all condensation from front to back. I covered the front sunroof yesterday with some plastic so there were no leaks when I took off the black metal tray/ drain. Took the back tray off and with that roof not being covered it peed water in. So I quickly grabbed a big nylon tarp thing and slung that over the roof so now it looks like a frenchist wearing a beret, true story.

Ok so I gather the (and yes I have searched countless times just double checking) seals around plastic drain part can go so is it best to just remove all the old silicone/ sealant and replace since it's all out anyway? Also when you put the drain tray back in is it better to put a bead of sealant around it so it can't leak around the edges?

I also think the roof bar fixings look suspect and I think or hope the glass on the top, what do you call those wee windows? I think that looks ok for the moment. I just want to get it all sealed now so I can have a few years worry free disco ownership (haha as if)
 
glad it's sorted !

extra sealant can't hurt, as long as it doesn't block anything, or stop water running away down a channel.

oh, and their called alpine lights
 
Ok here is my problem, the sun roofs are all sealed better than when they were fitted at the factory so let's rule them out completely. The trouble is condensation I think. When I took the headlining out the roof was covered, it looked like a sheen on perspiration from front to back. So I towelled it all off before I put the drains back in so my sealant would have a good bond. Went back out today and obviously since there is still a lot of water in the everything as the air heats that's hitting the roof and causing more water droplets to cover it which over time run down wetting the parts... you get the picture, it's like I'm running some sort of distillation plant.

This is really starting to get my goat now.

10mm closed cell polyurethane foam matting about £14 foir a 6ft x 4ft sheet glue it with TRV silicone sealant or heat resistant automotive adhesive. and not only will it cure the condensation it'll make the vehicle warmer, and reduce external noise levels.
 
The other question I have is that if the sealant on the sun roof trays can degrade over time what about the sealant LR have used between the roof and the shell?
 
Panel seal. aka tiger seal, I scrapped a K reg disco last year with 223k on the clock the rear quarter panel showed no sign of leaking and put up a fook of a fight when I stripped it off. The roof overlaps the actual inner panel by nearly 2" so unlikely to leak in there. Check the rear vents are clear as these allow air to circulate and reduce condensation
 
As an update to this thread and ANOTHER place to look. spotted water dripping from near the N/S alpine lights yesterday and stripped interior out to check, where it was coming from. Turned out the box section that holds the roof and side panel. Had rotted out. a check outside the vehicle and a rake around with a screwdriver and bolster. Revealed a 3" wide hole under the gutter below the alpine light. Expanding foam has sealed the box section up and 1/4 tube of silicone has sealed the entire rear side panel from front passenger door to rear of vehicle.
 
Well I'm completely lost, I let the inside dry out on that day last week when we didn't have any rain, just left the doors/ windows/ sunroofs open and the roof was totally dry. Closed it up before the damp air of the evening, went out the next day after it had rained heavily at night and the roof was still bone dry everywhere but still the soundproof had filled with water. I'm at the end of my tether with it.
 
Right so today I was having a mess about and figured I'd see what was going on under the bonnet. The other week I had sealed some iffy looking bits where I thought the water might be coming from, from the sort of drain/ tray under the windscreen. I poured some water in that and watched fore where it came out, seemed to be mostly around the front of the sidesteps. So Went round to the passenger side that has not been as wet and it seemed that the water drained out a lot of places there.

So I reckon the water must be coming in the bulkhead, any idea how the hell I would get in about that to have a look and seal it up?
