Hi all,
I am looking to replace my water pump in the coming weeks and hoped I could get some advice on best one to go for.
I cannot afford a JLR one.
I found postings on the forum they go back a bit and wonder what current best one is.
I św one posting recommending Quinton Hazzell..not sure if thats currently favoured.
Any suggestions be great, only want to do it once.
Thanks

Tbh any old crap will do, I have always stuck the cheapest on my 200tdis with no issues.

Take your pic on the brands of water pumps.

I had to replace my pump as the bearing failed at 41300 miles back in 2012, so much for genuine parts.
The replacement part STC4378G so was OM spec, back then it cost £52.00.
Also I thought its a good time to replace the serp belt and antifreeze, It was the first time with hands-on the viscous coupling/fan so when refitted back I could feel a small amount of play… maybe this resulted in the pump bearing failure anyway a new coupling was purchased and fitted.

After the removal of the 8 hex screws holding the pump you will see IIRC 3 are longer… anyway the long ones go through the water jacket, so the threads will need a waterproof thread lock/sealant, example Loctite or similar

Took over half and hour to remove the old pump gasket with out damaging the alloy face, new gasket was installed just greased both sides. Thats it, so a nice Saturday morning job :)

Hello again,
I wanted to check with you is the nut 36mm or 32mm ? I ask as sellers on eBay are saying 32 for a V8 and others say 36mm I think it’s 36mm .
I assume it’s anti clockwise to undo the nut
.do I get a gasket with the pump or do need to buy one.

I did change the belt on my TD5 years ago but cannot remember which way it was
Sadly I stupidly gave away the spanner and pulley holding tool so need to buy new.
Thank you

1. I haven’t a clue, I just use a large adjustable spanner, a quick tap on the end and then spin off the fan by hand. Unless it hasn’t been removed before the its a Hard tap :(
2. Yes it does.
3. A gasket is supplied with the pump.

Thank you Discool,
Do not have any big adjustables
As I say i had a big spanner but gave it way...I see the laser one has both sizes on its will go for that.

Most viscous spanners have both sizes on the one spanner, sometimes they are so tight you might need to initially free it up with a hammer a chisel to jar the thread loose, much more imprtant is which thread is it? as not all are the same.
The proper spanner and holding tools are now pretty cheap.

Thank you I will be prepared for that one....does anyone know the size or part number of the 3 long bolts please that go in the pump to the block?

They are not listed in my parts book only one that is are FS106255L, these are M6X25mm flanged bolts,6 are needed of these.

I have discovered the parts book is wrong on these the M6 bolts go in a Td5 not a petrol Disco, petrol

Petrol Disco is M8 x25mm
I discovered the long bolts are UNC.

Just trying to cover all the bases.!
