Just had a phone call - the green machines Water pump has given up the ghost :(.
As the Timing belt is overdue, seems a good idea to do both at the same time but hearing all sorts of nasty sounds about ****part bits, thought I would look around.....
Having done a search or two, dont prices vary???

Price of water pump varies from £30 to £160 - and thats just one supplier

The Timing belt kit I inherited with the motor seems to contain Britpart stuff..... now, obviously, I dont want it to snap on me, so do I throw it away :( and replace with genuine, or use the stuff I have got, or just use a genuine belt, for example?

I cant justify spending huge sums on this motor, but dont want it breaking down in a months time. Do you have any prefered suppliers for this stuff, or is it just a question of digging deep :(?

£160 for a water pump ffs!

Waer pump from Andrew page was about 46 quid or thereabouts for my old 300 tdi,
did me for at least a year ans a half befoe I sold it on, the biggest problem was getting the old one off, there is always one bolt that wont come out and rounds off !!!

Just ordered a belt kit (belt, pullys & gasket) from craddocks for £60 + vat.
Apparently the tensioner doesn't normally need replacing

i use paddocks for a lot of my spares. my tensioner bearing collapsed once which resulted in my engine then eating my fan belt. For the hassle it caused i wished i had replaced the bearing previously when i changed the belt, they only cost about two quid.

I would stick with the Dayco kits, they are OE suppliers for things like wheel bearings too. Saw last night on the paddocks website another OE supplier for the waterpump, I can't remember the name but it was about £10 for than the ****part one.
