Last year I bought a new radiator which came with a 2 year warranty. On Saturday I noticed coolant leaking from the front of the rangie which turned out to be from the new radiator. I have removed it and tested it and there is a leak coming from the bottom.

I phoned the suppliers and they said to send it back to them (at my cost) and they would test it and see if the failure was covered by the warranty. They [vendor] would then make a claim against the manufacturer and when the manufacturer credited the vendor I would then get my refund.

God only knows how long the process could take but as it stands I either wait or buy a new radiator and then hope the warranty refunds my purchase.

Is this normal? I am reluctant to send my radiator away as no doubt their investigation will decide it was not covered by the warranty and I am left with cost of the courier and new radiator.

of course thats what they want you to do - how do they know it hasnt been punctured by road debris?
Most warranties are against manufacturing defects.

Your claim is against the vendor not the maufacturer. If the rad is faulty it is for them to replace it, then to claim against the manufacturer. You should not have to wait for their claim before you get a new rad.

Spot on most vendors make the process laborious so that we look at things like"it was only 100 quid or whatever and this is going to be grief so I will just accept it "
Problem is we all give in too easy
