Hi chaps!its been a while but my door locks are really doing my head in!!they just start popping up and down when ever they fancy!it used to just happen every so often, but now getting real frequent!only when the car is unlocked tho,and sometimes when I try to open the tail gate the push button makes the locks pop up and down but the tail gate does not open!not shure where to start with this one,is there a brain for the locking system??or some one said maybe a bad earth??any suggestions greatly appreciated cheers
It's a p38 dse 2000 plate

1st thing to check will be the RF receiver; if you're unfamiliar do a search as there are A LOT of threads on it :p but it can burn out door locks

Luckily this is not the fault that will burn out your lock motors. I can say that because I've had it for a couple of years and it's still no more than annoying.
Recently I stripped, cleaned and checked my driver's lock and thought that I'd cured it but it happened again yesterday. In your case I'd start by looking at your tail gate lock. The button can fill with water and corrode the spring and contacts but after that - good luck - and if you come up with a definitive answer please spread the word around.

I've recently replaced my driver's door latch as it was triggering the alarm in the recent heatwave. My money would be on one of the latches needing replacing.

Edited to add - latches tend to go for silly money on ebay but I managed to pick this one up for less than 30 quid delivered so keep your eye out :)

On mine it was the boot lock and/or button causing the trouble, cleaned it all up, made a new spring for the button, checked the connections, there was bad corrosion on the button connector, and it has been fine since.

Deffo boot lock button. Common failure item. Causes cycling of locks. It's a stupid design and only has 2 wires so there's no need for it to be so complicated. You can unplug it and just wire up any other push button switch for the time being, just to prove it is that before you shell out on a new one. I wouldn't buy secondhand...

Thanks for all the info ill get to work on these suggestions!
Fingers crossed for the boot button first
I'll keep you all posted on my progress

Actually this is a well documented fault in the NA forums according to which its the driver's side door lock microswitch.

I had this too was gona replace the latch but seems to be ok now

The power to the rear tailgate goes through the drivers side switches, so it could be connected anyway...

Central locking is actuated by the door switch so if all the locks are popping up and down its most likely something in the switch flopping around and making intermittent contact.

I had this problem too, including a tailgate that wouldn't open. I also had

weird ratcheting from the drivers door lock when I used the fob button and

the outstation made strange sounds too....

I replaced the drivers door lock and now I have no electrical functions in door.

Tailgate now works but window wont go up or down and electric mirror wont

adjust. Also, the door wont lock/unlock with keyfob button. I have to do it

with the key. All other locks work when fob button is pressed. I am going to

remove door card tomorrow and check for snagged wires but I don't think

that will be the problem.

Did you resolve your issues?

As above and replace the rusted spring.
