hello
gents, how can i determine which one needs replacement?when starting the engine from cold, when i open the exp tank cap and i look at the small hole i can c water driping from the rad bleed pipe,it is not a fine line, more like water dribbling drop after drop, when i rev, the water squirts from the hole,it means water pump is ok or it is weak?
and i can hear the vc fan engaging when engine is hot and howling, then returning to its previous calm state when the car moves, when i spin it by hand after engine is off from hot,i feel a resistance when i let go,it will not continue on turning, but if i wiggle the fan there is like 2mm play in it (not the water pump shaft coz it will not move) what will play is the fan clutch with the attached fan ofcourse.does that mean that it needs replacement?i don't want to test it with the newspaper :) i can c it turning fast when it is engaged.
i am experiencing a slight overheating at idle.
radiator was rodded and flushed, thermostat was changed, temp sender was changed, grounds cleaned tightened, hoses were checked.no coolant loss.
any help?it its a 95 4.6 hse

let me rephrase.how much is the life time of the water pump of the 4.6 hse,in kms or miles, and the viscous fan?without forgeting that the truck is driven on mountain roads more than highways.

use the newpaper and check the fan properly, the fan will spin anyway hot or cold with inertia. push the rolled up newspaper in and see if it stops or slows it any while hot.

pushing a newspaper in is NOT RECOMMENDED,wht if a fan blade snaps off and hit my face?is there onother way to test it?wht about the 2 mm play is it normal?i said in my thread i don't want 2 stick the newspaper  it doesn't sound right...

you wanted a difinitive test, thats it. you push the paper in and it brushes against the blades. you are not trying to touch the actual radiator, you will know straight away if it works or not. nearly every garage i know uses this as a test. if you don't want to do then don't.
take the viscous unit off the car. check how easily it turns, use a propane heater or a wallpaper hot air gun to bring the temperature of the unit up to around 80/90 degrees and see how stiff it is to turn. it should be near solid when hot.
i know which method i use:rolleyes:
the 2mm play was there on mine and that was ok.

i can assure u i am not a girl,u don't have to insult or give me such an answer to back up someone, and anyway i am not in ur way,i am in a democratic forum,if u r annoyed or ****ed of something u better chill out or cool down than give ur practical advice, and if u don't want to give ur advice well don't give it anyway, and DON'T TELL ME TO LEAN OUT OR SUMMIT.i had a lot of help in this forum from respected people like irishrover, wammers, derek ward, and a lot more (hat up for you gents),and all of them were so nice and helpfull unlike u.and by they way MIND YOUR LANGUAGE

Its simple physics..a newspaper will shred/bend before the fan breaks..its the simplest way to test.Don't get arsey...people are trying to help.As for the language...welcome to anglo-fookin-saxon.

and DON'T TELL ME TO LEAN OUT OR SUMMIT

he means lean out of the way when you use the paper so you don't get hit with shredded paper. either do it or don't. if you don't like either way of doing it take it to a dealer and pay the cash:rolleyes:

By the way my fans ok.and i have tested the vc fan like u said,it shredded the newspapers into pieces.there is always a first time to everything.my pro was that the exp tank was full of **** like ... And it was clogging the small bleed pipe hole in it,so i ****ED IT USING UR ... Coz it can fit there.problem solved
