Evening all,

I'm planning on doing the water pump in a couple of weeks, as well as replacing the rad and thermostat

So I'll need to remove the viscous fan. Having read the threads on this it seems to be a bit of a pain, but one thing that isn't clear is the size of the spanner needed for the nut.

Varrying different sizes are mentioned from 30mm to 36mm. anyone got a definitive spanner size as i'll need to source one before the job.

It's a 95 4.6 v8 if that makes a difference

any help gratefully received

cheers

36 mm. Undo in the same direction the fan turns. Put spanner on nut a give it a tap with a cluttering peg. That's an hammer to the uninitiated.

Thanks for the info

I pray that my knuckles will remain intact

Forget your knuckles - its a given that they will be skinless after process.:p
The trick is stop the pully from turning when you use the spanner. Jam some rags between the belt and the pully and if your spanner is long enough it will make the job so much more easier.

When I did mine last month I ended up chisiling mine of. It doesn't take much to get it started.

Did mine last weekend but it's a Diesel (32mm spanner for us). It came out easily after I figured out that leaving the belt on helps lock the water pump pulley :)
