Hi All.

My query is regarding motor tax in the Rep of Ireland. I have the Cert of Registration and Licensing and the VIN Plate off a 1984 Series 3 Land Rover, Petrol with Irish Reg Number, which is no longer in use and has been declared "off the road" for the past 8 years. I regularly see Discoveries going around in daily use ZV Plates. Could I use this on a Discovery 1 or 2 to avail of the lower Road Tax and Insurance, ie Vintage ?.

I also have a UK V5 Cert for a 1987, Series 111, 88" Petrol.

Would really appreciate any information and would also have to be Legal.

Regards.

Chris.

Many thanks. It is done on a regular basis here. There are even a few specialising in it and charging a fortune.

NO. It will be illegal. You may have seen 'some' people entering banks with a banana in their pocket wearing a ski mask, and then exiting minutes later with a large amount of cash. Just because THEY got away with it, doesn't mean YOU will, or that it is legal!
People in UK slap an old Series body onto a Range Rover chassis and retain the original registration number and VIN plate and continue to 'pay' for free tax. If the DVLA found out, they would fine you for not having tax, give you a bill for any back tax THEY think you have done them out of and then issue you with a Q plate because you won't have (in their eyes) enough of the original vehicle to retain the original identity.
They allocate points to the chassis, engine and gearbox, suspension and front and rear axles. You have to score a minimum number of points to retain the original identity.

Thanks for your reply.
I have decided against it as I am pretty sure the powers that be here in Ireland will eventually cop on sooner or later since they are always hungry for more money to top up their obscene salaries and pensions.
Best regards.
Chris.
