Vin plate

A landrover usually only has a chassis number on the plate , cannot see why replacing it with the same details can be illegal.

I am sorry but things like this perk up peeps ears. It’s human nature in the Landy market of “dodgy “
Have you got a blank plate? Do you have full history of the vehicle? How do you lose such an important part?

VIN plates vary from year to year and have different numbers on them, more than only the chassis number.
Some are stamped some embossed.

It’s probably legally doable, but you would have to give lots more good info before anybody on here would step up and say “just stamp it” like this.

its quite easy to lose the vin plate when you take it off and take years to do a small project :D

found mine again eventually, then some months later got round to putting it back on :D

I think it is possible to get blank vin plates, sure I have seen them for sale with one of the suppliers or on ebay

Whereas I would second this as I have a couple of vin plates (not mine) which have been included in boxes of parts I have inherited or bought, I completely agree with @marjon 's sentiment. I am sure there is an official way of doing it as I cannot believe that purchasing a blank plate and a set of punches will stand up to any official scrutiny.
 
I am sorry guys but all this talk about.
“Oh just buy a VIN plate and stamp it like this with the V5 you brought off flea bay, or take this body and put it on your chassis and get a plate to match”
They are so nickable as it is let’s not encourage it.

I am sorry and the OP may have a genuine problem. But I wouldn’t advertise this is what I did:( unless I had the legal proof.

I don't disagree with marjons sentiment, though as said earlier in the thread, it is the chassis that is stamped on a landy, the bulkhead plate is just easier to find and it unscrews, replacing it with one with the same details shouldn't be a problem imho.

If the chassis is stamped and you have the matching V5 what's the problem in stamping a new removable plate...I have the legal proof I've done it here in Portugal and they scrutinize everything so they can turn you down... Lol

As you and I know if numbers don’t match it’s no go along with a pile of paperwork, it’s simple.

Yes agree, but same bulkhead and plate. Hard top/truck cab is not the question here.

But as the OP has not had any feedback on points raised, I am not getting involved.

So you can't replace bulkhead and re-attach VIN plate.
 
Ok.
So vin has gone. Get a trailer/paperwork etc & contact DVLA.this may need to be inspected . Once you have his all confirmed ask them how you get a plate stamped.
If I popped a bonnet/look on bulkhead & saw shiny rivits I would be asking questions.

Must be a sod for enthusiast on the classics having a shinny vin plate. They would rather commit harri Karri than have the plate looking a bit dirty.

Surely the body is an irrelevance as has been alluded to by others, it is the chassis which carries the identity of the vehicle. Now although the the vin plate is attached to the body it is not actually what identifies the vehicle this is the chassis stamp. Having said that as it carries the vehicle vin number I would have though there is an official process for getting a new one and would follow this advice.
