Very strange????

hi all,bit of a strange one,when i bought my 99 range the open book sign was on and itr would only blow air to windscreen,for some reason maybe it was the snow but the open book sign has dissapeared and all works fine,and i was sure the blend motors had gone ,is this common to happen?

It appears you were lucky. The distribution blend motor looks as though it was stuck. My advice is that every month or so, the HEVAC should be put in maual mode and the blend motors driven through the full range of travel a couple of times. That is, changing the temperature from LO to HI on both sides and the distribution from floor to screen. Most people leave the temp. at around 20 and the distribution at floor & screen most of the time. Inside the motor casing is a gear driven potentiometer and this tends to move over a small section of the resistor track during it's lifetime.:behindsofa:

so I.R you reckon ive had my birthday and christmas all in one then,i was dreading taking the dash to bits etc.
but i will be taking your advise on putting the hvac through its paces every month to be safe,

Let's hope so. If you gag the missus and kids, turn the radio off, you should be able to here the motors running when the engine is ticking over and the buttons pressed when the HEVAC is in manual mode and the blowers turned right down, another tip is to blow through the small grille below the time clock on the centre console with compressed air next time you check your tyres and every 6months as there is a small sensor with a fan in front which detects the inside temperature and can get clogged with dust, fluff etc.
