Replacing the 2.5P (17H) engine in my 90 (1985) with an ex Disco (1992) 3.5V8 hotwire Efi.
Looking for a V8 specific rad I saw on Island 4x4 and others a rad said to be suitable for all petrol and 2.5NA and V8:

Te parts book show the following for 2.5P and V8s:

N.B. Note(1) = has oil-cooler.

So the one on my 2.5 is esr79 or possibly esr77; Island say the one on offer is esr76 & esr79, will my existing rad work ok with the viscous fan (not going electric) or do I need (and is there) a V8 EFI-specific rad:rolleyes:?
Thank you.
Insomnia rules...

Not always straight-forward. Now that genuine rads. are probably unobtainable you may find you have to jiggle things a bit. When fitting a replacement unit to my RR 3.5efi I had to raise the new rad. slightly in order to get the viscous fan to centralise in the cowl.

Cheers. I'm not so concerned about fitting, more the capacity for cooling on a V and pipe connections. The Island4x4 indicated it's suitable for petrol V8 and NA.

Got a new Allmakes ESR76 from total parts, very helpful on the phone, delivery Friday, £100 incl.VAT P&P free.
There was a Bearmach H/D ali one for 120+VAT and a H/D copper one for 194 + VAT but went I cheap as he gave a good rap for it; they refuse to sell Britpart stuff!

Took a close look at my new Allmakes rad (Made in China) which arrived this morning, and it looks identical to the one in my 90 except mine has metal rather than plastic end-plates and pipes and also has a LR Genuine Parts sticker  but no part no.
ESR76 is suitable for V8 but the blurb said also ok for 2.5P and 2.5NA; perhaps the PO put it in?
If it is correct for a V8 and is in good working order - not had any cooling issues to date and no tell-tale green stains - I'll stick to the genuine parts all metal one, and either keep the Allmakes as a spare or return it.

I thought V8 rads were unique to that engine. From memory they had an extra two small pipe outlets in the top corner, one for a pipe to the expansion tank and the other for a pipe to the inlet manifold or can these pipes be blanked off?

Definitely worth keeping the original rad if it fits, they are much more superior in term of build, and with the metal end bits can be recored etc.

The metal lasts longer than plastic

Yes, connect one to the expansion tank & block off the other. Sounds like you have a 'generic' V8 rad. which is what I ended up with when buying for my 3.5efi. With the benefit of hindsight I wish I'd had the original re-cored, but that's not to say there's anything wrong with the replacement.
