It's been.... 'mentioned' and 'discussed' a few times on here but I've just come across this video on YouTube.

Does anyone have any thoughts on it?

Yes. He's talking sense. I am not sure it has to be Valveline VR1 if you're changing every 5k miles; 20/50 from Smith & Allan should be fine. Shell used to make really good oils in the past if you want a decent branded one to ... wait for it ... shell out on. The ZDDP bit makes sense but never seen anything other than anecdotes on it. I wouldn't leave any car for more than 10k miles between changes, fully synthetic or not.

Makes sense to me.
Use an oil that is what the maker specified at the time the engine was built.
And change the oil regularly, even if you don't do many miles.
Exactly what the regular posters on LZ would say.
He seems to like Valvoline, and I am sure it is good stuff, but Castrol Classic 20/50 should also be fine.

its a good price, its the right viscosity and it contains the ZDDP thats no longer in new oils due to catalytic converter damage, but needed to maintain flat lifters
