Doing it is relatively easy - see the thread in the series section. Getting it road legal, that's a different matter.

if you know what your doing then yes, not too big an issue putting it as a rangy if you use rangy running gear, engine etc and use just the series body...oh and you cant cut the chassis without an sva. on my landie i used
the the series body+engine+transmition etc and just the rangy chassis and axles, so mine would need and sva before road legalness. i think the best would be a series 3 front end on a defender and rear mount the rad etc, no cutting the chassis then, i know it wouldent be "right" but it would be easyest to do the front..

its a 88 inch and i plan cut chassis suit body too and hope no one notice's the v8 and coils ... plus i plan to chop most of the bonnet area out and refab it as im quite good at fabrication.... question is do i keep auto box or manual it as i have a 3.5 v8 on su carbs????

The chassis numbers won't match though so you'll get found out when you come to sell it. I'd stick the series chassis number on it after. If you ever want to sell it it will have to be checked. You would be better cutting a 109 shorter to fit rather than cutting the chassis shorter to fit an 88.

oh i plan to never sell it as it bring me so much fun. plus it will be a pretty old new hybrid as me series two was built in 1958 shame really it was so rotten.. i am going to spend alot of time reinforcing the chassis and i was going to restamp chassis to its all being over looked buy a really good mechanic to who wont let me kill myself or any one else to.. But as you said khoas i will go to dvla and check chassis thing out..

Yeah, if the chassis is altered in any way it needs a check or it will fail the mot. If you're determined enough to chop the chassis then I'm sure you can make the body fit too.

just going back to the comments along the lines of its "**** easy" its easy to do a bad job, slightley harder to do a gd job, but worth spending a few months to get it RIGHT then youl have something that will last for years
