Hi,

So went kayking today and took the ranger rover, we had the windows down for a bit cause it's so hot right now in England, and I adored the sound of the 4.4 V8. I know of ls3 V8 and other engines being swapped into defenders but I can't find any V8 diesel swaps. Would anyone have a clue as to why?

Cheers

I woudl hazard a guess the torque of the 3.6 and especially the 4.4 diesel would trash the defenders trans pretty damned quick?

The GMC 6.2 V8 diesel fits but needs a careful right foot as it has a lot of torque for standard transmissions. Sounds nice though!

It isn’t a widely done conversion now due to the Tdi being in favour and a lot cheaper to find and get spares for.

Its probably because there are very few v8 diesels available that are a reasonable size, or too complicated.
TDV8 would be too complicated for most. Plenty of v8s around from tractor units or combines but just too big and heavy to be practical
